Jan 🌎 Temperature Anomaly: +1.33°C (🟠 ↑ 0.14°C/yr)
January 2025 global temperatures were about +1.33°C relative to the 1901 - 2000 base period; Jan. temperature anomalies were ↑ 0.14°C per year on average over the last 5 years.
No surprises — January temperatures were the warmest on record (actually, this was kind of a surprise to climate scientists). Interestingly, January was extremely cold in the DC area and in most of the US (and Greenland1), but the rest of the world didn’t get the memo.
Meanwhile, Canada, Eastern Europe, Russia, etc. all experienced record temperature anomalies. This is consistent with warming trends: “The Arctic has warmed nearly four times faster than the globe since 1979”.
