Feb 🌎 Climate Anomaly: +1.40°C (🟠↑ 0.07°C/yr)
February, 2024 global temperatures were about +1.40°C relative to the base period; Feb. temperature anomalies were ↑ 0.07°C per year on average over the last 5 years.
A lot of climate related news has focused on sea surface temperatures, lately (spoiler alert: they are very high). Scientists are unsure why sea temperatures are rising so quickly and so suddenly. The vast majority of global warming thus far has been absorbed by the ocean, but temperatures have been 2X higher than the long-term sample variance for over 365 days straight. That’s wild.
