📊 Chart: The Geography of Gloom: Typical Number of Cloudy Days per Year Across the Continental U.S. | skier_222 (via Reddit) | Everyone likes a good map. This one is a really clean, simple way of showing “gloominess”, and the color palette (all grey) reinforces the topic of data being depicted. This account on Reddit makes some really great maps.
🎵 Music: Poles Apart | Pink Floyd | “Poles Apart,” from Pink Floyd’s 1994 album The Division Bell, is probably my favorite post-Roger Waters era Pink Floyd song (yes, even the weird, haunted-circus interlude). It’s some of David Gilmour’s best guitar and lyrical work and is generally interpreted as a meditation on his fractured relationships with former bandmates Roger Waters and Syd Barrett. “Did you know... it was all going to go so wrong for you...” Gut punch.
📰 Article: US government shutdown: What’s the impact on the economy and markets? | J.P. Morgan Insights | Unlike previous government shutdowns, this one is happening at a moment when markets and the Federal Reserve really need some official data. This shutdown has already delayed jobs reports, inflation reports, and others from being published (which is also messing with my Q3 GDP nowcast!).
